Hanoi get ready!

With three critically acclaimed albums under their belt, along with two bootleg remix albums that set the blogosphere on fire and past tours with Daft Punk, Björk, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, CSS, Super Furry Animals, The Killers, Mogwai and more, Brooklyn’s favourite electro wizkids are bringing their special brand of mayhem to Vietnam for the first time this month.

Fresh from their debut shows in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong and riding high on a wave of sell-out dates from San Francisco to Sydney on their LP3 world tour RATATAT are set to hit Hanoi for one night only this May 30.

It doesn’t get much better than this people!

With more than 20 years experience behind him, Spikey Tee is a true international talent.

Since he started playing sound systems at parties and warehouse gigs in and around London in 1985, Spikey has forged a formidable reputation as a DJ, MC and vocalist, with some 50 releases to his name, working with everyone from Jah Wobble’s Invaders of the Heart (as lead vocalist for five years), to Mr Scruff, Mark Rae, Horace Andy, Bomb The Bass, Resin Dogs, Morcheeba, and even The Bee Gees.

His skills, both on the mic and on the decks have taken him from London around the world to Australia (where he now resides), the USA, Sweden, Czech Republic, Germany, Norway, Russia, and Finland and beyond.

With his upcoming gigs for CAMA and co-conspirators his first apperance in Vietnam, Spikey Tee will be hitting Hanoi for one night only, joining the CAMA crew and HCMC’s favourite DJ Jase for a blazing night of hip-hop, ragga, and drum’n’ bass.

Love and Paranoia in Hanoi

C.A.M.A. is proud to be at the fore in bringing Australian electro pop punk sensation Regurgitator and their signature sound to Vietnamese audiences for the first time next month, breaking their Asia tour to play a one-off show in Hanoi on Sunday October 12.

Local acts Ngu Cung, My Favourite Uncle and Holy Red Cross will join the band for a truly international night of rock.

Originally from Brisbane, Regurgitator have been making waves both at home and abroad for more than 10 years with their genre-smashing fusion of pop, punk, electro and indie rock.

Credited with reinvigorating the Australian indie rock scene with the release of their debut album Tu Plang in 1996, the band has since gone on to release a total of 12 albums and EPs, winning both popular and critical acclaim for their innovative sound and their ironic take on modern pop culture.

The band is presently touring to celebrate the release of their most recent album Love & Paranoia, which was recorded in Brazil in late 2007.

Currently consisting of Vietnamese-Australian lead singer/guitarist Quan Yeomans, making his first trip to Vietnam, bassist Ben Ely, drummer Peter Kostic and keyboardist Seja Vogel, Regurgitator will be stopping in to play their Hanoi show in between dates in Hong Kong, Laos and China.

Regurgitator, Tiger Rock Your Passion winners Ngu Cung, My Favourite Uncle and Holy Red Cross will be playing at Hanoi’s American Club (19 Hai Ba Trung) on Sunday October 12 from 5.30-10.30pm. Tickets to the show are priced at just VND30,000, available only on the door. Limited numbers only so be in to win.

ONRA brings the beats

CAMA raises the stakes this month, shipping acclaimed French beatsmith ONRA all the way from Paris to our little socialist republic just to get your rumps a-shakin’.

That’s right, CAMA and our co-conspirators are bringing you the business in both HN and HCMC, with ONRA joining DJ Jase and the CAMA Sound System in the north, and Jase, the Jetlag crew and Da Remedy in the south for 2 nights of cross-cultural vinyl destruction.

Hanoi’s first international music festival of note: 5 April 2008

<a The infamous Hanoi Minsk Club celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year and C.A.M.A. is helping it organise Hanoi’s first international music festival to mark the occasion on 5 April. Over 10 live acts will play the main stage, 5 of them imported from across the waters and DJs will be doing their thing all day long in the patented C.A.M.A. cocktail tent. The international lineup includes: Both Cheese (Japan), Stylish Nonsense (Thailand), WOW (Australia), Peabody (Australia), and James Harries (Czech Republic/ UK). The festival kicks off at midday sharp at the luxurious outdoor grounds of the American Club, 19 Hai Ba Trung and won’t stop till 11pm. After party? Why that’s a good idea.
